All Starlink Mini Mounting Options Explained
Starlink Mini has more mounting options than any other dish in the lineup — because it was designed to go everywhere. The tradeoff is that choosing a mount gets complicated fast. This guide explains every mounting type in plain English, when each one makes sense, and links to dedicated buying guides for each. No product pitches — just clear information.

Roof Mounts
What it is: Hardware that attaches the Mini to your roof structure, either by drilling into rafters (flush mount, J-mount) or sitting on top without penetration (ballast/non-penetrating).
When to use it: Permanent home installation where you want the cleanest look and best sky clearance. Best for homeowners who won't be moving the dish.
Wall and Fascia Mounts (J-Mounts)
What it is: A bracket attached to the side of the house — gable end, fascia board, or exterior wall. A short pole extends the dish away from the wall for sky clearance.
When to use it: When you can't or don't want to go on the roof. Attic access or steep pitch makes roof work difficult. Gable ends often provide excellent southern sky exposure.
Install difficulty: Easy to medium — drilling into wood is straightforward, cable routing into the house is the main challenge.
Roof Rail and RV Mounts
What it is: Clamp-based systems that attach to existing roof rails, rear ladders, or hitch receivers — primarily for RVs, vans, and truck campers.
When to use it: Any RV or camper van setup where you need the dish mounted without drilling into your roof.
Magnetic Mounts
What it is: High-pull neodymium magnet base that sticks to ferrous (steel) surfaces — vehicle roofs, metal buildings, steel containers.
When to use it: Steel roof surfaces where you want zero-drill instant deployment. 30-second setup.

Suction Cup Mounts
What it is: Industrial suction cup base that creates a vacuum seal on smooth surfaces — glass, polished metal, smooth fiberglass.
When to use it: RV windows, van skylights, smooth painted metal roofs, glass panels. Fast deploy without drilling.

Tripod Mounts
What it is: A freestanding three-legged pole that holds the Mini at adjustable height on any flat or semi-flat surface.
When to use it: Camping, events, jobsites, temporary installs, or anywhere you move frequently. Works on any surface — dirt, gravel, concrete, grass.
Best feature: Deploy anywhere, no surface requirements whatsoever. → Full guide: Starlink Mini Tripod Mounts
Ground Stake and Pole Mounts
What it is: A steel stake driven into soil, or a pole set in concrete — for permanent outdoor ground installations.
When to use it: Rural properties where the roof is obstructed by trees, properties where roof drilling isn't possible, agricultural land.

Vehicle-Specific Mounts (Truck, Car, SUV)
What it is: Bed rail clamps, magnetic cab roof mounts, and rack-based systems for pickup trucks and passenger vehicles.
When to use it: Mobile use from a vehicle. Mini requires the Roam plan for legitimate in-motion use.
